What is palm reading?
Palm reading — 手相 — treats the hand as a record rather than a forecast. The lines are read as long habits of a life, and they change as the life does.

A record, not a prophecy
Most traditions do not read a palm as a fixed map of what will happen. They read it as a picture of how a person has been living: what they carry, what they avoid, what they keep returning to.
That is why two readings of the same hand can differ after a few years. The hand is not a verdict. It is closer to a diary written in skin.
The three lines people actually ask about
The heart line: the upper line, usually read as the way a person does closeness — how they give it, how they guard it.
The head line: the line below it, usually read as the way a person thinks — practical or wandering, steady or quick.
The life line: the curve around the thumb, usually read as the shape of a person's energy and appetite for living, not as a length of years.
What a hand cannot say
A hand cannot tell you how long anyone will live, and any reader who says otherwise is selling something. It cannot diagnose an illness or predict a diagnosis.
It also cannot tell you what another person feels. If a reading claims to do that, it is guessing about someone who is not in the room.
How to read your own hand
Use daylight, not a lamp overhead. Let the hand relax — a clenched hand changes every line.
Look for depth and continuity first: which lines are deep, which fade, which break and start again. Depth and breaks are the interesting parts, not the length.
Compare your two hands. The hand you write with is usually read as where you are now; the other as what you came in with.
Write down one sentence about what you notice. That sentence is usually more useful than any label.
