The I Ching and mental health

Most people do not come to a reading on a good day. They come in a hard week, when something needs a shape. So it matters to be honest about what this can do for you — and what it cannot.

心

What a reading can honestly offer

Three things, and they are not small: a pause in which you are not supposed to be productive; a sentence that names what you have been circling; and a decision put back in your own hands.

People have used this tradition for centuries for exactly that — not to be told what will happen, but to stop carrying a blur alone.

What it must never replace

It is not therapy, not diagnosis and not treatment. It cannot assess you, and it will not manage medication, trauma, or anything that needs a trained person in a room with you.

If you are taking medication, keep taking it. If someone has told you to cut back on real support because a reading said so — that is a reason to leave, not to listen.

When a reading is the wrong tool

If what you need is a decision, a reading can help you think. If what you need is relief from symptoms that have lasted weeks, or help with a crisis, it is the wrong tool — and using it instead of the right one costs real time.

There is no shame in either path. They are simply different jobs.

Questions people ask

Can a reading help with anxiety?

It can help you put a feeling into words and slow a decision down. It is not a treatment for an anxiety problem, and we will never claim that it is.

Should I stop any treatment because of a reading?

No. Never change medical care based on a reflection practice. Talk to your doctor.
