How do I stop scrolling at night?

The short answer is that you do not beat two in the morning with willpower at two in the morning. The decision has to be made earlier, and it helps if the hour has somewhere to point. That is what the old method is for: not a rule, a direction.

Why willpower loses at night

By that hour you are tired, and tired people do not weigh options — they take the nearest one. So a rule made at midnight is a rule made by the exact person it is meant to restrain.

The Chinese reading has a version of this: 阴阳 is not a moral judgement. Night is 阴 — contracting, inward, low resistance. You do not fight a season. You plan around it.

Make the decision in daylight

Decide before the evening starts what tonight looks like, and write it down while you are still the person who can decide. At 2am you are only executing, not negotiating.

This is the same 24-hour rule we use everywhere else: when the pull is strong, you do not decide — you wait, and you let the decision you made earlier hold the line.

Give the hour something to point at

Scrolling at night is rarely about the phone. It is about an hour that has nothing pointing at it — no direction, no next step, nothing to hold.

Bring the question you are actually carrying — the one underneath the scrolling — and get one direction back for it. It gives the hour a shape.

Try it tonight

Before the evening starts, put one question into words — then ask it, and take the direction with you into the night.

Questions people ask

Is this about screen-time settings?

No. That is a tool, and useful. This is about the hour itself: what it is pointed at, and what decision was made before it started.

Is this medical advice?

No. We do not diagnose or treat anything, and if sleep or mood is seriously affecting your life, that is a conversation for a doctor — not a reading.

Does a reading actually help with a habit?

It helps with the hour. Instead of an open-ended night, you get one thing you are pointed at. That is a direction, and a direction is easier to hold than a rule.
