I Ching vs The Pattern
You may have come here because a reading left you more anxious than you started, not less. That is worth naming plainly. These two tools answer differently, and one of them tends to alarm. Here is what each actually does.
| I Ching · YUBAO | The other one | |
|---|---|---|
| What it reads | One moment — the question you are carrying right now, cast once. | Your birth chart, plus the sky moving over it day by day. |
| How it answers | One direction: go, wait, or change course — with the reason it points that way. | A feed of transits and timings, often several shown together. |
| Vocabulary | Fixed and checkable: hexagram, moving line, the classical text. No invented names. | Its own labels for time windows; some names can be reused for more than one thing. |
| What it does to you | Built to settle one decision, then stop talking. | Built to be checked often, which can keep a worry alive. |
| Cost | Free to ask. Membership is USD 10.99 a month. | Free, with a paid tier. |
Where the other one is genuinely better
- If you want a daily habit with notifications and a community around your chart, The Pattern is built for exactly that — and we are not.
- If you enjoy watching many influences move at once, that depth is real, and one hexagram will feel thin next to it.
- If you want years of chart history, friend comparisons and social features, it does more of that than we do.
So which one?
Use The Pattern when you want to watch a chart move over time. Use the I Ching when you have one decision and want the circling to stop — one question, one direction, then put it down until morning.

Why can a transit app feel scary?
Several difficult transits shown together read like a warning, even when the app means them as information. One heavy item can colour a whole day. Our answer to that is to show one thing at a time, and to stop.
What does 'Fated Encounters' mean?
It is their label for certain time windows. When the same name is reused for different things, the honest move is to ask what it means this time — a term should not quietly mean two different things.
Does the I Ching predict my future?
No. It reads the moment you are asking from and gives you a direction. It will not tell you what will happen, and it does not stack predictions.
Is this a knock on The Pattern?
No. It is a real app that people love for good reasons, and the list above says where it wins. The point is only that different tools answer different questions — pick the one that matches the question you actually have.
Is this a sponsored or affiliate comparison?
No. We name other tools because that is the search people make, and we say where they are better. We take no money from anyone mentioned here.
